Currach makes its single malts with a new and innovative production method that makes it the first whiskey in the world to use barrels charred with different types of algae. Currach's whiskeys have different characters although they share the same DNA as their single malt whiskey.
This version uses Wakame seaweed in the carbonization process of its finishing barrels. This green algae is rare, seasonal and is considered the queen of algae. This algae grows in shallow areas close to the shore, areas of rocks beaten by waves and in natural rock pools during the winter to be collected in spring at its optimal time. It provides a salty, umami flavor and a touch of sweetness.
NOSE : aromas of sea salt and rye crackers that give way to others of toffee, all wrapped by marine vegetal notes.
PALATE : ground pepper and spices, a touch of oak, followed by maritime notes with tropical fruits and hints of caramel with green tea.
FINISH : sweet and salty finish with a touch of licorice, umami flavor and maritime character.
